Custom Jewelry
The Story of a Custom Ring
This particular custom creation starts as many of these projects do with some old jewelry, a desire to repurpose that metal and gems and a dream of what a new piece would look like.
- Old jewelry from the client and information that will help Kathryn design the new piece. You can see a clay model made while the customer was in the studio.
- Here’s the clay model set with stones removed from one of the old pieces of jewelry.
- A closeup of the clay model set with stones from the client. This will be used to create a wax, from which a new ring will be cast.
- Here’s the wax and a casting in white gold of the new ring.
- Here Kathryn fits the stones into the wax model just to be sure that everything will work as it should once it is cast.
- Testing the wax before casting into metal.
- Here’s the rough, white gold casting made from the wax. Next the rough will be finished by hand and set with the clients gems.
- The finished ring.

- The finished ring.
- The finished ring. It was designed to nest with the clients wedding band. The different colored stones represent her children’s birthdays. The perfect end to a story that started with old, unworn jewelry and a dream.
